In TESOL class, 80/20 rule was introduced. I always presume that as a teacher, you got to really well prepare what you want to teach (talk) within an 1 hour period of time given to you in a class; I believe many people has the same thought as I am. However, to my surprise & joy, a teacher should only talk 20% & let your students do the 80% talking !!! That's what this 80/20 rule is about in TESOL :)
Come to think of it, I'm wondering if I'm one like to always talk & talk & never give chance to my friends, family members, colleagues.... to have the same opportunity to do their talking ???!!! If the answer is 'yes', I think that's really inconsiderate of me ! (i hope i'm not like that !) People tend to talk more, worse still - more about themself, and tend to listen less :( Hence, i'm reminding myself from now on, I'm going to adopt a 50/50 rule with friends, 60/40 rule with family members, 80/20 rule when I'm a teacher :) What about you ?

If teacher were to do only 20% talking and student do 80% talking, then I don't mind to be a teacher. But have you ever come across teachers like that? I haven't and I don't think it is realistic maybe not in M'sia...not sure abt overseas......
So how did your get-together go?
Most of the teachers actually do the 80% talking, but, if after attended the TESOL class, i think the 80/20 is actually an effective & more interesting way to teach. As a language teacher, you should encourage your students to make more communication then only they'll learn. Ooi, you interested or not ? Let me be the introducer as I can get some incentive :)
The get-together was great ! Everyone brought/bought sth to share. What 'amaze' me is that, our friendship just bloom after spending 60 hours together in class; how nice ! :)
